Aide
JOB TITLE: AIDE I, II, III, IV
QUALIFICATIONS:
Statutory definitions as defined by the School Laws of West Virginia.
Aide I:
Means those personnel selected and trained for teacher aide classification such as monitor aide, clerical aide, classroom aide, or general aide.
Aide II:
Means those personnel referred to the Aide I classification who have completed a training program approved by the State Board of Education, or who hold a high school diploma or have received a general education development certificate. Only personnel classified in an Aide II class title shall be employed as an aide in any special education program.
Aide III:
Means those personnel referred to the Aide I classification who hold a high school diploma or a general educational development certificate and have completed six semester hours of college credit at an institution of higher education or are employed as an aide in a special education program and have one year’s experience as an aide in special education.
Aide IV:
Means personnel referred to in the Aide I classification who hold a high school diploma or a general educational development certificate and who have completed eighteen hours of state board approved college credit at a regionally accredited institution of higher education, or who have completed fifteen hours of state board approved college credit at a regionally accredited institution of higher education and successfully completed an in-service training program determined by the state board to be the equivalent of three hours of college credit.

SUPPORT RELATIONSHIPS:
Work is assigned and reviewed by the principal, assistant principal, and the program director of the related program in which the aide is working. the aide will work cooperatively with all the staff in the assigned work area.
JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY:
Performs all duties as related to the job classification and work assignment.
SUPERVISES:
Student help, adult volunteers, other employees as determined by classification and job assignments and as assigned by the administration.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
I. WORK HABITS
1. Routinely adheres to the established hours of work
2. Maintains regular attendance
3. Follows established rules, policies, and procedures
4. Follows accepted safety practices as related to the performance of the assigned duties
5. Schedule s work so that all requirements are met in the performance of duties
6. Willingly accepts change in regard to the job
7. Maintains the work area in a neat and appropriate manner
8. Maintains positive attitude
9. Maintains confidentiality of records and information
II. PERFORMANCE
1. Must be able to handle adolescent students with physical disabilities who require total care
toileting, feeding, and assistance in all daily activities;
2. Must accompany students on handicapped bus from Parsons to TCHS a.m. and p.m.;
3. Exercises good judgment in the performance of duties;
4. Organizes tasks to ensure that the required duties are met;
5. Shows a high level of responsibility toward performance of all related duties;
6. Administers, scores, and records such achievement and diagnostic tests as required by the principal, program director, or as teacher recommends for individual students;
7. Is able to maintain efficiency under stress;
8. Operates and cares for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes;
9. Maintains security over area assigned;
10. Orders, by requisition, needed supplies and equipment;
11. Coordinates work with other staff members in daily school schedules and school functions;
12. Help students master use of equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes;
13. Distributes and collects workbooks, papers, and other materials for instruction;
14. Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher or program director as applicable;
15. Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, meal periods, assemblies, play periods and field trips;
16. Keeps bulletin boards and other classroom learning displays up to date;
17. Reads to students, listens to students read, and participates in other forms of oral communication with students;
18. Checks and records student attendance;
19. Helps students with their clothing;
20. Assists with wash up and toilet routines of the students;
21. Alerts the classroom teacher to any problem or special information about a student;
22. Performs other tasks related to the job assignment as requested by the principal, assistant principal, or program director.
III. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
1. Demonstrates knowledge of job assignment;
2. Attends staff development training both required and voluntary;
3. Seeks new knowledge relative to the improvement of job practices.
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:
200 days with salary as established by the salary scale adopted by the Tucker County Board of Education and the consideration of any extra duty assignments contracted by the Tucker County Board of Education.
EVALUATION:
Performance of assigned jobs will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Tucker county Personnel Evaluation Policy.
JOB DESCRIPTION REVIEW:
The job description will be reviewed annually by the Superintendent.
