Truck Driver
TITLE: TRUCK DRIVER – WV Code §18A-4-8 defines positions as follows:
Truck Driver – means a person employed to operate light or heavy duty gasoline and diesel-powdered vehicles.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Must have considerable knowledge of driving techniques and road safety practice.
2. High school education or equivalent preferred.
3. Chauffeur’s license required.
4. Must have ability to receive and comprehend oral and written instruction and to work with school personnel.
REPORTS TO:
Maintenance Supervisor
SUPERVISES:
Has no direct supervisory responsibilities
SUPPORT RELATIONSHIPS:
Has contact with staff in schools.
JOB GOAL:
To operate vehicles on the public highways to deliver merchandise to and from the schools in an expeditious, accountable manner.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
A. Work Habits
1. Routinely adheres to the established hours of work.
2. Does not routinely miss work without sufficient cause.
3. Is careful to abide with established rules.
4. Follows accepted safety practices as related to the performance of his job.
5. Consistently meets schedules as dictated by the demand of the job.
6. Willingly accepts change in regards to his job.
7. Maintains his work area in a neat and appropriate manner.
8. Demonstrates initiative in the performance of his job.
9. Demonstrates a positive attitude.
B. Performance
1. Delivers water, supplies, equipment, commodities, mail furniture and any other items
that may be requested by the schools in an expeditious, accountable manner.
2. Responsible for the operation of county owned vehicles to legitimate destination points only.
3. Advises immediate supervisor when delivery run is completed and available for additional transporting or assignment
4. Systematically loads and unloads water, food, mail, equipment and materials according to schedule.
5. Helps with general maintenance when not driving.
6. Does minor maintenance on vehicle.
7. Observes proper safety practices.
C. Professional Development
1. Keeps abreast of job requirements by reading, course work, work on professional committees,
visiting other school systems, and meeting with peers.
2. Participates in staff development activities.
3. Attends in-house meetings designed to familiarize staff with professional issues.
4. Participates in workshops, seminars, or conferences at which topics are discussed that relate to the job.
5. Seeks and shares professional materials and ideas.
6. Belongs to appropriate professional associations.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
240 Day Contract. Wages and work year to be according to the current schedule.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Service Personnel.
